Signs by Autografix was started in 1970 by John H. Miller while he was in college, in the process of attaining his Fine Arts degree. He decided on Autografix as the name for the company because he was thinking not of cars, but of "automatic graphic design." The "Signs by..." section exists to define for customers just what product is created by Autografix.

After college graduation, John had a studio and painted for five years, continuing to make signs on the side. Some of his large floral murals were sold to the Knights of Columbus in New Haven, and may still be seen in offices there today.

As John began to realize that making signs satisfied his artistic desires as well as his love of working with tools and mechanical challenges, he decided to shelf his canvases in order to design and build signs full-time. His general knowledge of and talents at manufacturing as well as `his training in art and design have served him well in the sign industry.

In the early 1980's, Autografix as a company began to be fleshed out with employees and computers. We believe our firm is a team, with each worker contributing their special skills to the Autografix melding pot.

We also believe that while computers have invaded the sign and graphics world and allowed some typists to think they are designers, the capabilities computers offer to the graphics industry make them exceptionally valuable tools. We strive to balance that technology with artistic sensiblities.
